Some thoughts to ponder when working with Maori students.
1. I know how to pronounce the name of all of my students and I check with them regularly.
2. I have high expectations for all of my students.
3. I create a secure well managed learning environment.
4. I use a variety of teaching approaches and questioning techniques to promote student involvement.
5. I share assessment information with my students and involve them in next step learning.
6. I foster peer teaching regularly.
7. I ensure students get opportunities to take a teaching role in small groups when appropriate.
8. I make a specific effort to use contexts that are relevant to my Maori students.
9. I show an interest in the student's whanau and initiate informal meetings with them to discuss the students well being.
Maori Language week beginning 21 July...
